The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) has recorded a drastic decline in the circulation of online gambling funds, including deposit values. PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana stated that by the end of 2025, the value of online gambling fund circulation had fallen to Rp286.84 trillion, a 20 percent drop from the Rp359.81 trillion recorded in 2024. He said this decline breaks the rising trend of online gambling fund circulation since 2017. In 2017, the circulation value was only Rp2.01 trillion, rising to Rp359.81 trillion in 2024. Meanwhile, the deposit value also shrank to Rp36.01 trillion in 2025 from Rp51.3 trillion in 2024. “After continuously increasing every year since 2017, the decline in the value of online gambling fund circulation in 2025 is a historic record,” Ivan said in a written statement on Thursday (23/7/2026). However, Ivan cautioned that online gambling activity has not subsided. In the first quarter of 2026, the value of online gambling fund circulation reached Rp40.3 trillion, with total deposits of Rp10.59 trillion. PPATK analysis shows that transaction patterns are becoming more frequent, dispersed, and tend to use smaller nominal amounts. PPATK found a significant shift in deposit methods. Throughout 2025, the use of QRIS reached approximately 78.5 percent of the total deposit frequency, or 305.35 million transactions with a nominal value of Rp19.35 trillion. Meanwhile, deposits via bank transfers and e-wallets were recorded at 83.79 million transactions, or about 21.5 percent, with a nominal value of Rp16.67 trillion. This shift became even more apparent in the first quarter of 2026, when the composition of deposit frequency via QRIS increased to 88.6 percent, while bank transfers accounted for 11.4 percent. PPATK emphasised that QRIS and other rupiah-based digital payment instruments are legitimate means of transaction and play an important role in supporting the economy. The problem lies in the misuse of these instruments by online gambling networks. This situation indicates the need for strengthened verification, onboarding, and ongoing monitoring of merchants by payment service providers.
