PPA and Lokananta Launch Incubation Programme for Young Musicians
JAKARTA – Young Indonesian musicians have another opportunity to develop their careers through the Bintang Muda Lokananta (BML) Vol. 3 incubation programme. Initiated by state-owned PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset (Persero), or PPA, together with Lokananta, the programme provides support ranging from music production and skills development to promotion, helping musicians enter the professional music industry.
PPA President Director M. Teguh Wirahadikusumah said BML Vol. 3 was part of the celebrations for Lokananta’s 70th anniversary. The programme is also intended to strengthen Lokananta’s role in developing talent and the national music industry ecosystem.
“This affirms Lokananta’s role as a historic music institution that is sustainable, while continuing to adapt and remain relevant in supporting the development of Indonesia’s music industry ecosystem,” Teguh said in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday (30 October 2026).
Teguh explained that BML is a PPA Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme in the education sector, focused on developing young musicians. Participants have the opportunity to record their work and receive guidance on understanding the needs of the music industry.
The programme includes auditions, Lokananta Studio Gigs, mentoring with industry practitioners, professional recording, music releases and a promotional tour. The approach is expected to help participants build networks and develop sustainable music careers.
BML involves a number of musicians and industry professionals as judges and mentors, including Iga Massardi, Lafa Pratomo, Kukuh Rizal, Endah Widiastuti, Ferry Dermawan and Satria Ramadhan.
According to Teguh, the first two editions showed an increase in the programme’s social value. Based on Social Return on Investment (SROI) measurement, BML Vol. 1 scored 7.13, rising to 7.46 for Vol. 2.
“This achievement shows the growing social value generated by the programme, as well as the effectiveness of PPA’s social investment in creating a positive impact on young talent and the creative industry ecosystem,” Teguh said.
Alongside developing musicians, PPA is seeking to expand the use of Lokananta as a centre for creative and commercial activities. Since being revitalised and reopened to the public in 2023, Lokananta has developed activities linking music preservation, creative production, performances and local economic activity.
“Since being revitalised and reopened to the public in 2023, Lokananta has continued to develop as a destination integrating the preservation of musical heritage, creative production, performances, collaboration and community economic activity,” Teguh added.
Since reopening in 2023, Lokananta has recorded more than 1.2 million visits and hosted 497 events. Teguh said the revitalisation of the asset should be accompanied by programmes that benefit the music industry and younger generations.
“This state asset must remain productive and create value. Through BML, Lokananta is once again doing what made it great: discovering musicians, recording new work and bringing it to the public,” Teguh said.
Lokananta Chief Executive Officer Wendi Putranto said developing young musicians was part of efforts to sustain Lokananta’s role in Indonesia’s music industry. He said preserving musical heritage must go hand in hand with creating new work and nurturing talent.
“We want Lokananta to be a place where young talent is not only discovered and recorded, but also equipped with knowledge, networks and opportunities to build sustainable careers,” Wendi said.
Wendi said BML Vol. 3 is open to solo musicians and musicians from all regions of Indonesia. Applications are free and open from 29 October to 31 December 2026 through Lokananta’s official website.
“We hope BML can continue to be a space for Indonesian musicians to grow, while strengthening Lokananta’s role as a centre for music development and a sustainable creative economy,” Wendi said.
