PP Tunas Takes Effect, DPR Member Urges Strengthening of Public Digital Literacy
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of DPR RI Commission VIII, Dini Rahmania, hopes that the enforcement of Government Regulation (PP) Tunas, which regulates restrictions on social media use for children under 16 years old, is accompanied by strengthening digital literacy in society.
Dini assesses that this policy, which begins to take effect, is a strategic step in maintaining the quality of growth and development of Indonesia’s young generation.
However, the implementation of this policy must be accompanied by massive education, especially for parents and children.
“The policy restricting social media use for children under 16 years old, which begins to take effect today, is a strategic step in maintaining the quality of growth and development of Indonesia’s young generation,” said Dini when contacted on Monday (30/3/2026).
The Nasdem politician views this policy not merely as a restriction, but as a form of protection and long-term investment for children’s future.
Because, continued Dini, early exposure to social media has the potential to disrupt children’s identity formation.
Meanwhile, children need a healthy space to grow and build character.
“Being exposed to social media too early risks shifting basic family values, reducing warm interactions, and weakening children’s identity formation,” she added.
For this reason, Dini emphasises the importance of the family’s role as the primary centre of education in accompanying children in the digital era.
She also hopes that this policy can become a momentum to restore children’s interaction with the real environment.
“This policy is expected to restore the family’s role as the primary centre of education. Children need more interaction with parents, learning values of affection, empathy, and responsibility in real life, not just the virtual world,” she stated.
She assesses that the involvement of various parties is key to the success of implementing the regulation.
