PP Tunas Officially Implemented, Lestari Moerdijat Urges Creation of Safe Digital Space for Children
Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) has been officially implemented starting today, Saturday (28/3). The government emphasises that it will not tolerate digital platforms that ignore child protection.
Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, calls on all parties to work together to create a safe digital space for the nation’s future generations.
“Child protection in the digital space is not just a policy. It is a necessity. The state is present, and all parties must also take responsibility,” stated Rerie, the familiar name for Lestari, in her written statement on Saturday (28/3).
Data from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) records that 9 out of 10 children aged 5 and above in Indonesia are already active internet users. This figure continues to rise and directly impacts their growth and development.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision (Ditjen Wasdigi) records a surge in child pornography cases from 986,648 cases (2020) to 1,450,403 cases (2024) — an increase of nearly 48% over four years.
Rerie, who is also a member of Commission X of the DPR RI, opines that in responding to the current situation, regulations alone are not enough.
“Digital literacy must become a primary need for families. Parents are obliged to accompany their children. Schools and society must move together. If not, the digital space will continue to be a real threat to the nation’s future,” said Rerie.
According to the member of the NasDem Party’s High Council, child protection in the digital space is a collective effort to safeguard Indonesia’s future.
“There is no room for negligence in facing this challenge. Being firm, consistent, and responsible is a necessity to realise a safe digital space, for the birth of competitive future generations,” she concluded.
