PP Tunas in Effect: I Registered an X Account with Age Under 16, It Got Locked Immediately

KOMPAS.com - I attempted to create a new account on X (formerly Twitter) by entering a birthdate indicating an age under 16. The result was that the account was immediately locked after creation.

This step was taken to observe the implementation of the new rules now being applied in Indonesia, in line with the enactment of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025, or PP Tunas.

The initial registration process proceeded as usual. I entered a name, email address, and birthdate.

However, when the birthdate entered indicated an age under 16 (for example, birth year 2013), the system still allowed the account to be created.

A notification appeared: “Your account is locked”

In that notification, X explained that the account was locked because it did not meet the minimum age requirement at the time of creation.

The message that appeared read:

“Our Terms of Service require everyone who uses X to be 13 or older, and we have determined that you did not meet the minimum age requirement at the time this account was created.”

After the account was locked, X also displayed a link to the help page containing an account recovery form.

However, when I tried to access that link, the form page could not be directly accessed.

Instead, a notice appeared stating that the form could only be opened by accounts in certain conditions (locked with a specific status).

From this experiment, it is evident that the mechanism implemented by X does not reject registration at the outset, but rather locks the account after creation if an age violation is detected.

With the account in a locked state, users practically cannot use X services as usual until they complete the verification process through that form.
