BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – PP Tunas (Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection) comes into effect on Saturday (28/3/2026) and has been positively welcomed by several parents in Bekasi.

However, they assess that the government cannot suffice with merely limiting access but also needs to tighten content filtering on social media.

One of them, Erick Kustara (44), described the policy as an appropriate step to protect children from exposure to negative content.

“I view this social media restriction as very useful. But please, Komdigi should also carry out filtering. Identify which content needs to be blocked and should not be presented because it can damage the nation’s regeneration,” said Erick when met in the Patriot Chandrabaga Stadium area on Saturday.

“So far, the presence of gadgets, especially with the indulgence of applications like Roblox, Twitter, and TikTok, has mostly brought harm. The benefits have instead become fewer,” he said.

He added that children’s high curiosity makes them often try various applications without supervision.

On the other hand, parents’ limited time becomes a challenge in supervising gadget use.

“Children should play with handphones after returning from school. But when parents are not around, they can steal time. In the end, they play gadgets freely,” he said.

“There is educational content on YouTube, and on TikTok too. But for games like Roblox or applications like Twitter, in my opinion, they are still not suitable for junior high school-aged children,” he said.

To reduce gadget dependency, he suggested increasing children’s activities outside of devices, such as scouting, sports, science, or arts.

“Increase busyness at school. That can fill children’s time with positive things,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of protecting children from negative content such as pornography, online gambling, up to hoaxes, as well as the need for the environment’s role in shaping children’s habits.

“If necessary, applications with a lot of negative content should just be shut down. It’s a pity for the children who cannot yet discern,” he said.
