PP Semmi Calls for Peaceful Democracy, Rejects Divisive Provocation
The Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union (PP Semmi) has stated its position regarding the current state of democracy in Indonesia. They are encouraging democracy to be conducted with courtesy and through dialogue.
“First, the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union invites all elements of society to carry out democracy by always prioritising courteous, peaceful dialogue, and let us prove that democratic maturity in Indonesia is upheld through constitutional and dignified means,” said PP Semmi Chairman Zulhadi Ariza at a press conference in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
Their second point calls on the public to uphold moral ethics and dignified democracy. According to him, every expression of opinion in public is a constitutional right of citizens guaranteed by law.
“However, this right must be exercised while still complying with the applicable legal corridors, maintaining public order, and respecting the nation’s moral ethics for the common good and the upholding of state sovereignty,” he said.
On the third point, Zulhadi said PP Semmi calls on all youth and the wider public to jointly safeguard the honour and dignity of the symbols of state sovereignty. They reject provocative efforts by elements claiming to represent the people that have the potential to divide national unity and the state.
“Fourth, the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union firmly rejects all forms of expression of opinion that have the potential to violate legal provisions, disrupt the activities of the wider public, or damage public facilities which are the nation’s shared assets,” he asserted.
They stated their rejection of the planned AMPB demonstration at the DPR RI Building on 27 August. They claim the AMPB’s voice does not represent public concerns.
“Therefore, the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union rejects the AMPB’s call for action in front of the DPR Building to be held on 27 August 2026 if it does not have legitimacy representing the Indonesian nation in upholding the moral ethics of democracy, because it is vulnerable to provocation and has the potential to divide national unity and integrity,” said Zulhadi.
“We urge the AMPB to convey its aspirations with full moral and ethical responsibility towards the democracy of the nation and state,” he added.
On the fifth point, they call for humanitarian solidarity for Sumatra, Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara, which are currently affected by disasters. Zulhadi argued that, given the current social dynamics, all Indonesians should optimise their energy and focus their attention and concern on our brothers and sisters who are suffering from natural disasters in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara.
“Let us work together to unite the strength of mutual cooperation and extend real assistance to ease the burden of our affected brothers and sisters so that they may recover quickly and rise again for the realisation of national unity and integrity,” he added.
