Jakarta — The Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah received an endowment of 1,000 Qur’an copies from Sinar Mas, as an effort to support Muslims in becoming pious individuals during the month of Ramadan.

“Ramadan is an opportunity to educate oneself by strengthening piety through Qur’an recitation and fasting. We hope this Qur’an endowment can bridge the meaning contained within it, and then implement it,” said Saleh Husin, Chairman of the Sinar Mas Muslim Foundation (YMSM), in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

Accompanied by APP Group Director Agus Wahyudi, Saleh Husin witnessed the symbolic handover conducted by YMSM Board Member Mayerfas to Secretary General of PP Muhammadiyah and Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof Abdul Mu’ti.

Mayerfas expressed hope that this endowment initiative can strengthen the personal interaction of those using it with the Qur’an.

“So that the activities of Qur’an recitation, interpreting its contents, and then implementing them in daily life will take place comprehensively,” he said.

All the Qur’an copies endowed, with the support of PP Muhammadiyah, will be forwarded to various places of worship, educational institutions, and Islamic learning circles.

Previously, on Tuesday (24 February), the foundation also endowed more than 1,000 Qur’an copies to PP Muhammadiyah during a visit to Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang (UMT) in Banten. At that time, Saleh, together with APP Group Director Agus Wahyudi, handed them over to Treasurer General of PP Muhammadiyah Hilman Latief, witnessed by Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir and other leadership members, as well as thousands of PP Muhammadiyah study participants.

To date, with APP Group support, 1.4 million Qur’an copies have been distributed since 2008 to various corners of the country, partnering not only with the government, military and police, but also with religious institutions, community organisations, educational institutions, community leaders, and professional communities.

The existence of YMSM is to accommodate Islamic practice that is open, tolerant, equitable, and full of compassion within the Sinar Mas group, making it a means to increase piety as well as work productivity. Externally, the foundation encourages relationship-building and synergy with individuals and institutions through various social and educational activities.
