MUHAMMADIYAH’s national leadership has issued a seven-point statement on recent developments in the Middle East, condemning the attack by the United States and Israel on Iran. The statement was delivered by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership, Prof. Syafiq A. Mughni, on Monday, 2 March.

“First, we express our profound sorrow and condolences for the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other victims who were targeted by the attack by the United States and Israel on the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he stated.

He noted that similar condolences were extended to victims of Iran’s retaliatory attacks in several Arab nations.

Second, Muhammadiyah strongly condemns the attack and views it as a violation of human rights, international law, and disregard for United Nations decisions.

“Third, we call upon the United Nations to impose stern sanctions against the United States and Israel for these violations and to implement them through concrete steps,” he explained.

Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership, he said, urges the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take immediate steps to end the genocide against the Palestinian people, halt all forms of violence, and prevent escalating tensions among nations in the Middle East region.

“Fifth, both Iran and Arab nations should exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue to avoid further conflict amongst the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s members,” he said.

Sixth, Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership calls for dialogue and diplomatic measures to resolve the conflict in the Middle East region.

“Seventh, we invite all nations, multilateral and bilateral institutions, religious figures and civil society at large to participate in creating global peace and justice and to condemn all forms of arbitrary action that cause destruction and collapse of civilisation on Earth,” he concluded.
