The Central Board of the Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation (PP FPTI) supports the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ (Kemenpora) plan to establish a multiyear national training camp (pelatnas) to maintain continuity in athlete development.

PP FPTI Secretary General Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro said continuity in the national training camp is necessary so that athlete preparation does not stall after the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, which will take place from 19 September to 4 October.

“We hope it will run continuously after the 2026 Asian Games because in 2027 we will take part in a number of important events, one of which is the qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics,” said the man often called Pristiawan in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that programme continuity is an important part of maintaining the quality of athlete preparation, especially since Indonesian sport climbing has a packed competition agenda after the 2026 Asian Games. A continuous training programme also gives coaches room to set gradual performance improvement targets.

He expressed hope that this pattern of support can be maintained through a multiyear national training camp so that development does not run intermittently. Programme continuity is very important for maintaining training rhythm, evaluating athlete progress, and preparing regeneration consistently and measurably.

After the 2026 Asian Games, the World Climbing Series agenda will be an important momentum for achieving results while strengthening development. In addition, a number of events in 2027 will serve as a bridge to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the United States.

In June, Kemenpora initiated the multiyear national training camp scheme, which has been approved by President Prabowo Subianto. Under the plan, Kemenpora will separate the financing line between the training camp budget and the needs for sending athletes or contingents to international events, so that funding allocation for training can be more focused.
