Power trouble in Kepulauan Seribu
Power trouble in Kepulauan Seribu
From Warta Kota
The power supply on Kepulauan Seribu, off the coast of Jakarta, has been disrupted since the island group was designated a regency, causing anxiety to local consumers and thus harming public interests.
Before it became a regency, electricity to the island group was supplied 12 hours daily from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. After it became a regency, it was allocated an official power supply of 23 hours daily, but this increase has not materialized fully.
There are many problems with the diesel power generators on the islands that produce electricity. Among other things, the power supply is not properly managed, the diesel fuel frequently arrives late and repairs are often postponed due to the lack of spare parts.
The diesel engines that run the generators break down frequently, possibly because they cannibalize parts from other, older engines among the regency's islands. Consequently, the electricity supply in the area is sporadic.
We do hope that Kepulauan Seribu Regent Joko Ramadhan will take action to rectify the situation.
