TANGERANG SELATAN, KOMPAS.com - The Transportation Department (Dishub) of Tangerang Selatan City has cut off the electricity supply to the public street lighting (PJU) pole in Kampung Koceak, Muncul, Tangerang Selatan, after a boy with initials RD (13) died from electrocution.

The Head of the Transportation Department of Tangerang Selatan City, Ayep Jajat Sudraja, stated that his side decided to disconnect the electricity to secure the area and conduct checks.

“Our technical team has gone to the location to disconnect the electricity supply and repair that point,” Ayep said when contacted via WhatsApp on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Nevertheless, his side will still investigate the cause of the electrical leakage on that PJU pole.

“We are conducting checks to find the exact cause of the electrical leakage on the PJU pole, whether it is caused by extreme weather factors, cable age, or other technical damage,” he explained.

The incident has become material for evaluation by Dishub Tangsel in maintaining street lighting infrastructure.

Officers will strengthen supervision and routine inspections of the condition of existing PJUs in Tangsel.

“Previously, our focus was on accelerating the construction of PJUs, so the next focus is on maintenance and periodic checks,” he said.

In addition, Dishub Tangsel has asked residents to report if they find tilted PJU poles, peeled cables, or other conditions that could potentially be dangerous.

The Cisauk Police Sector Chief, AKP Dhady Arsya, said the incident occurred around 17:17 WIB when the victim was playing kites with his friends.

At the time of the incident, the victim’s friend named Ipan, who was at the location, tried to help.

However, he also got electrocuted when he touched the victim’s body.

Feeling difficulty in helping, Ipan then asked for help from his parents and nearby residents.
