Power plant in Batam

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned city gas company PT Gas Negara (PGN) will distribute and sell 60,000 standard cubic feet of gas per day to Brighton Limited's 600 megawatt steam power plant in Batam, Riau, the gas company said in a statement yesterday.

The 20-year distribution and sales agreement is to be signed today by PGN's president, A. Qoyum Tjandranegara, and Bambang Trihatmodjo, a director of PT Kresna Tara, the local partner of Brighton Limited.

Brighton Limited will initially build a 150-megawatt power plant, which is planned to come on stream in 1999 to supply Batam and its surrounding areas. The power plant's capacity will eventually be expanded to 600 megawatts, the company said.

The gas will be delivered by PGN through the Asamera-Duri pipeline which will span 820 kilometers from central Sumatra to Batam. The pipeline project is scheduled to be completed in 1997.

Kresna Tara is jointly controlled by businessmen Bambang Trihatmodjo, Bambang Riyadi Soegomo, Johanes Kotjo and Wisnu Suhardono. (04)
