Power Outages in Sumatra After 540 Feeders Damaged by Extreme Weather

As of 07:00 WIB on 23 May 2026, 173 of the 540 affected feeders had been restored, according to Darma Saputra, Manager of Communications and TJSL for PLN UID Sumatera Utara, quoted from PLN UP 3 Medan’s Instagram and reported by detikSumut on Saturday 23 May 2026. Saputra said the authorities are accelerating normalisation of the impacted feeders and asked residents to monitor the restoration progress. ‘The public can monitor information via the PLN Mobile app and other official PLN communication channels,’ Saputra said. PLN UID Sumut had previously apologised for the widespread power outage across much of Sumatra. He said the outage occurred due to bad weather in the Jambi Province. ‘PT PLN apologises for the electrical disturbances in parts of Sumatra on Friday (22 May 2026). Based on investigations, there was a fault on the 275 kV Muara Bungo-Sungai Rumbai transmission line in Muara Bungo Regency, Jambi Province caused by bad weather,’ said Darma Saputra.
