Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A number of areas in Sumatra were reported to experience a power outage on Friday night (22 May 2026). The blackout is said to have affected several areas, including Jambi, West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh.

PT PLN (Persero) said that the company is currently conducting an investigation into disturbances in the electricity system affecting several areas in Sumatra.

‘Currently PLN’s technical teams have been deployed to the field to conduct a thorough check of the system and electrical networks, to restore power and to trace the cause of the disturbance,’ he said.

‘PLN urges the public to remain calm. Information on the handling of the disruption will be communicated periodically through the PLN Mobile application and PLN 123 Contact Centre services,’ he added.

Based on reports from several residents in Jambi and West Sumatra, the power outage began to occur simultaneously around 18:30 WIB.
