Power Outage Lasts 4 Hours, Electronics Traders in Glodok Shout This
Several areas in Central Jakarta experienced a power outage this afternoon on Thursday (23/4/2026). One of the affected areas that remains without power is the Glodok district in West Jakarta.
Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia, lights are out in the Glodok Plaza area, particularly in cable shops and electronics shophouses. As a result, some shophouses have been forced to use generators to keep the power on. However, some shophouses have had to open in pitch darkness.
Meanwhile, at Harco Glodok, the power is still on because it uses a large generator.
According to traders, the power in the Glodok area started going out around 10:30 WIB. Local PLN officials are working to restore the power, but after four hours, it is still out.
Henri, a security officer at Plaza Glodok, revealed that the power started going out at 10:30 WIB.
“It started going out around 10:30 WIB, yeah. The PLN here promised the power would be back on in three hours, but it’s past 2 p.m. and it’s still not on,” said Henri when met by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (23/4/2026).
He added that the power outage in Glodok has left traders worried, especially electronics repair services that need electricity.
“It’s a shame for the electronics repair traders; they can’t fix electronics. It’s even worse for customers who come from far away to get repairs, but they can’t because of the blackout,” he explained.
Jono, an electronics repairman in Glodok, admitted the same, saying the power outage has put him at a disadvantage.
“Wow, with a blackout like this, we can’t do anything. How are we supposed to repair without power?” said Jono.
He added that blackouts usually last only 10 minutes. But after four hours, the power has not come back on.
“They said recovery would take three hours, but it’s almost 2 p.m. now and it’s still not on. We could be losing out because we can’t do anything,” he explained.
Mei Mei, a cable trader at Plaza Glodok, also complained about the four-hour power outage.
“From 10:30 WIB until now, it’s still not on. We don’t even have a generator,” said Mei Mei.
If the power doesn’t come back on, she could suffer losses because her customers usually buy raw electrical items.
“Yeah, if it’s not on, how can we test cables here? For example, buying terminal cables; usually here they buy ones that aren’t ready-made, they get installed first, but in the end, they can’t be tested because the power is still out,” she said.
Electronics trader Farrel at Plaza Glodok also complained because the power has not been restored.
“It’s been dark since 10:30 WIB, and it’s hot too. Customers have a hard time browsing because it’s dark. We’re just fanning ourselves here,” said Farrel.
