Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT PLN (Persero) has apologised for the electricity disruption affecting parts of Sumatra on Friday night (22 May 2026).

Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications & TJSL PLN, Gregorius Adi Trianto, explained that, based on the investigation, the disruption was caused by a fault on the 275 kV Muara Bungo–Sungai Rumbai transmission line in Bungo Regency, Jambi Province, caused by severe weather.

‘PLN (Persero) apologises for the electricity disruption that occurred in parts of Sumatra on Friday (22 May 2026),’ he said, citing PLN’s official statement.

‘Based on the investigation, there was a fault on the 275 kV Muara Bungo–Sungai Rumbai transmission line in Bungo Regency, Jambi Province, caused by severe weather,’ he added.

‘Currently, PLN teams have managed to address the fault and are accelerating restoration at the generation side gradually so that the electricity supply in the affected area can return to normal as soon as possible,’ he said.

‘PLN is ensuring the restoration process proceeds safely. The public can monitor restoration information via the PLN Mobile app or other official PLN channels,’ he concluded.

As reported, several areas in Sumatra experienced power outages on Friday night (22 May 2026). The outages were reported in several regions, including Jambi, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.

According to residents in Jambi and West Sumatra, the outages began at around 18:30 WIB. However, in some areas of West Sumatra and Jambi, power began returning around 21:30 WIB.
