Power Outage in Jakarta Causes Traffic Lights at Daan Mogot Cengkareng Intersection to Malfunction
JAKARTA — Several traffic lights in the Jalan Daan Mogot area, West Jakarta, went out due to a power outage at various points in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026) afternoon.
Cengkareng Police Traffic Unit Chief AKP Yeni confirmed that traffic lights at several intersections in the Cengkareng area began failing around 11.30am Western Indonesia Time.
“Earlier, the traffic lights went out starting around 11.30am. In the Cengkareng area, if the PLN electricity goes out, the traffic lights automatically go out too. Specifically in Daan Mogot, the Cengkareng Timur and Cengkareng Barat traffic lights are out, both towards Rawa Buaya and the other three directions,” said Yeni when contacted by Kompas.com by telephone on Thursday.
This prompted police officers to be immediately deployed to regulate traffic on the ground.
Yeni stated that Cengkareng traffic police members had been dispersed to several points to prevent vehicle build-ups.
“Earlier, our members were immediately spread out to several points for follow-up. Up to this afternoon, there has been no build-up, thank God, it’s running smoothly and under control,” she said.
“In the evening, because it’s rush hour, it usually gets busy and could pile up, potentially causing traffic jams,” she added.
Yeni further mentioned that they had coordinated with PLN regarding the electricity disruption, which is currently being handled.
“Earlier, I contacted PLN. They said there was a problem, and it’s now being followed up by PLN,” she explained.
Senior Manager of Communication and Public Relations for PLN’s Jakarta Raya Distribution Main Unit, Haris Andika, stated that the normalisation of electricity supply is being carried out gradually, both through control systems and direct handling in the field.
“Our technical team is currently carrying out intensive handling to restore the entire electrical system,” Haris said in a holding statement confirmed by Kompas.com on Thursday.
“In parallel with the recovery process, PLN is tracing the source of the disruption that occurred,” he continued.
“All personnel are on standby and striving to restore the electricity supply as soon as possible,” Haris emphasised.
He added that PLN will continue to provide periodic updates on the recovery progress via the PLN Mobile app and PLN 123 Contact Centre.
