A sudden power outage on Wednesday (9/4) evening in Jakarta directly impacted the halting of mass transportation services MRT and LRT in the capital. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung hopes that the incident will not happen again. “And of course, we hope this does not happen again,” said Pramono in Kebon Melati, Central Jakarta, on Friday (10/4). Responding to the mobility paralysis of residents, Pramono emphasised that although electricity matters are under PLN’s authority, the fatal impact is directly felt by public services under the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. “So this outage is entirely under PLN’s authority. But the impact on us includes the MRT, and then the LRT was also affected,” said Pramono. Furthermore, Pramono urged relevant agencies to immediately evaluate the electrical system to avoid mobility paralysis in the future. He reminded that current economic activities and metropolitan societal movements heavily depend on the stability of power supply. “Because indeed now energy has become something very important needed by the community,” Pramono stressed. As a precautionary step amid global energy crisis threats due to the escalation of conflicts between the United States (US), Israel, and Iran, Pramono also aligned DKI Provincial Government’s strategic policies with central government instructions. He ensured concrete steps such as effective implementation of Work From Home (WFH) policies as real efforts for energy efficiency in the capital. “Because with this prolonged war, I very much agree with what was conveyed in the President’s directive; we must indeed save energy. Use effectively what is truly needed. Including WFH for all in Jakarta will be implemented,” said Pramono. “Except for matters related to public services, I still ask them to work as usual,” he added.
