Pothole on Kebon Jeruk's Jalan Panjang Nearly Causes Motorcycle Accidents
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A pothole on Jalan Panjang Arteri Kelapa Dua Raya in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, has been endangering a number of motorcyclists.
ANTARA’s observation at the location on Friday (20/2) at 22:40 Western Indonesian Time found several riders nearly skidding after hitting the pothole, which is situated close to petrol station SPBU 34.115.08.
The sound of motorcycles striking the hole was loud enough to startle pedestrians walking along the pavement.
One rider named Ari (32) said his rear number plate came off from the impact.
“As I was passing through, I was startled by the pothole. It was a hard hit — my rear number plate came off. And I wasn’t even going fast,” Ari said when met at the location on Friday evening.
Fortunately, Ari was still able to maintain control of his motorcycle and did not fall.
“I was fine, I didn’t skid,” he said.
However, the dislodged number plate had been covered with a transparent plastic casing that shattered easily upon impact.
Shards of the plastic were scattered around the area where Ari’s number plate came off, making the road surface slippery and potentially hazardous for other road users.
Shortly after Ari’s incident, another rider also struck the same pothole with a similarly loud impact.
Fortunately, that rider was uninjured and continued on their journey.
Ari expressed hope that the pothole would be properly repaired soon.
“There are also undulations around the pothole. I hope those can be levelled out as well. Especially since so many vehicles pass through here,” he added.
