Potential of deep coconut commodities in Berau promises investment climate
Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Berau Regency Government is highlighting the vast potential of deep coconut commodities in its coastal areas, promising a new investment climate for the regional plantation sector. “The potential of deep coconuts in our coastal regions is very promising and wide open for the arrival of investors,” stated Berau Regent Sri Juniarsih Mas in Samarinda on Sunday.
The local government is currently striving to shift economic dependence from the mining sector towards the sustainable development of renewable natural resources. This commitment is evidenced by the arrival of support for the expansion of deep coconut plantations covering 200 hectares from the central government. “This 200-hectare land expansion assistance serves as valuable capital to revitalise our coastal plantation sector,” she said.
This coastal coconut variety offers a productive growth period, as it is capable of bearing heavy fruit at just three and a half years of age. The development of this plantation commodity is also integrated with community economic empowerment programmes spread across 13 districts and 100 villages throughout the Berau region. “Through the Sigap programme assistance, our villagers are now able to produce local cooking oil based on deep coconut,” noted Sri Juniarsih.
She explained that the existence of these village-scale processing industries certainly requires capital partnerships to enable the more massive and standardised production of coconut derivatives. To attract large-scale investors, the regency government has officially inaugurated the Berau Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2024 regarding the provision of regional investment incentives. “This latest regulation was created specifically to provide legal certainty and act as a bridge for ease of licensing for all investors,” she emphasised.
Furthermore, she added that prospective investors need not worry about raw material availability, as the land area of Berau Regency supports plantation extensification. The synergy between vast land availability, abundant harvest potential, and guaranteed ease of doing business is believed to position the Berau coast as a future national agribusiness mainstay. “We invite all investors to collaborate in elevating the wealth of our coastal plantation commodities to ensure they are strategically competitive, potential, and sustainable,” concluded Sri Juniarsih.
