Potable water supplied to villages

MAUMERE, East Nusa Tenggara: The East Nusa Tenggara provincial administration has not yet been able to provide potable water for many of the people as it is difficult to find springs in the area, an official said on Saturday.

"Currently, we are concentrating our efforts on providing potable water for the five regencies of Alor, Ngada, Kupang, East Flores and Manggarai. A total of 92 out of 241 villages have received potable water this year," local Health Bureau chief Agus Barak said.

He asked for the people's active participation in maintaining the purity of the water sources.

"Local people should be involved from the survey stage, while the government should only provide the funding," Agus said. (yac/dja)
