Postal service seminar

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned postal service Perusahaan Umum
Pos dan Giro (PPG) will host on Monday a three-day seminar
focusing on express postal services.

A PPG director, Sumitro Roestam, said here yesterday that the
seminar will involve executives from postal service firms in 16
Asia-Pacific countries, including those from the Northern
Hemisphere Express Post Development Group, which supervises
postal services in the United States, Britain, France, Norway,
the Netherlands, Sweden and Ireland.

He said that his company will learn about the international
express deliveries of documents from other firms which already
run such a service.

"We plan to operate such a business later this year," he said.
"In the initial stages we will serve the Asia-Pacific region
before offering global services.

He said that PPG will also improve its service of domestic
document delivery by issuing special envelopes which can be
mailed without a stamp.
