BANDUNG, West Java (JP): State-owned postal service company PT Pos Indonesia (Posindo) plans to expand the network of its Internet service to the capitals of the country's 27 provinces by the end of this year.
The company's marketing director, Sumitro Roestam, told The Jakarta Post here yesterday that such an extensive network will give it superiority over other local Internet providers.
Posindo's Internet service, Wawasan Nusantara Network, was launched in early 1996 in Bandung, Jakarta, Semarang in Central Java and Surabaya in East Java. The service offers customers electronic access to information and electronic mail.
Sumitro said the company has earmarked more than Rp 2 billion (US$856,000) to install its Internet network in the 27 cities. The establishment of each network will cost some Rp 80 million. (17/rid)
