'Post' reporter wins photo contest

JAKARTA (JP): A The Jakarta Post reporter, K. Basrie, won
first prize in the art category of the Kenduri Nasional '95 photo
contest, it was announced on Saturday.

Basrie's photo entitled Tanjidor, Betawi dan Merah Putih or
Tanjidor (a traditional trumpet), Betawi (indigenous Jakartans)
and the Red-and-White (the national Flag).

He pursed Rp 5 million (US$2,200) and a trophy from the
organizing committee.

The awarded photo portrays an elderly Betawi man, wearing
white traditional cloth, playing a Tanjidor trumpet with two
other players behind him, with a red background.

The photo also won the most favorite picture prize selected by
visitors during the nominated photo exhibition.

First winner for the fireworks category was Armand Nagib,
social care category was won by Hariyanto and the ceremonial
category by Fadoli Barbathully.

The photo competition, open to all, was held to celebrate the
Kenduri Nasional party held on Aug. 19 in commemoration of the
50th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence and the 468th
anniversary of Jakarta. (sur)
