Post office sells air ticket

JAKARTA (JP): The Yogyakarta branch of the state-run postal service company PT Pos Indonesia is now selling airline tickets in a bid to promote tourism in the city and its surrounding areas.

"We have now opened an air ticketing counter in cooperation with a local travel agent to support the tourism industry and to expand our public services," the chief of the branch, Tito Soewito, told Antara in Yogyakarta Saturday.

He said that he was optimistic about the ticketing business because the neighboring city of Surakarta will soon become an international gate after the Adisumarmo airport is renovated.

Yogyakarta is a well-known tourist destination where the palaces of Hamengkubuwono and Paku Alam are situated. The other tourist sites of the city and its suburbs include the hilly Kali Urang tourist resort, a silver handicraft center, the Parang Tritis beach, the Prambanan temple and the most popular temple in the world, Borobudur.

Yogyakarta is also called the city of education for its many universities.

The neighboring city of Surakarta, which is popularly called Solo, inherited the Mangkunegaran and Mangkubumi palaces as well as Batik production. Solo is also dressing up itself to become another tourist destination.(kod)
