Post-Flood Mud Cleanup in Aceh Reaches 92 Percent
The Task Force for Accelerating Post-Disaster Recovery (PRR) has reported that progress on mud cleanup following the floods in Aceh has reached 92% as of early April 2026. Head of the Regional Post for the PRR Task Force, Safrizal ZA, stated that out of a total of 519 target sites, 480 locations have been fully cleaned, while 39 other points are still in the process of being addressed.
“Progress on mud cleanup has reached 92% based on data from the post as of 6 April 2026,” he said during a media gathering in Aceh Besar.
He explained that the initial recovery phase, involving the opening of national road access, was completed 100% as of 25 January 2026. Currently, the focus of handling has shifted to cleaning public facilities and supporting infrastructure. The second phase is concentrated on normalising drainage channels as well as cleaning mud that covers access in several residential areas.
The cleanup process is carried out through collaboration among various parties, including the TNI, Polri, BNPB, and central personnel such as IPDN trainees. In addition, the cash-for-work programme is also involved to empower local communities.
“There is still quite a lot of mud, but all parties continue to work to clean residential areas and public facilities,” said Safrizal.
The cash-for-work programme is currently running in several areas, such as Meunasah Lhok Village and Meunasah Raya in Pidie Jaya Regency, involving around 375 workers since late March 2026.
The activities cover cleaning roads, drainage, public facilities, and the exteriors of residents’ houses. Cleaning of house interiors is not carried out due to privacy considerations.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Public Works also plans to collaborate with universities to expand participation in accelerating post-disaster recovery. This step is expected to speed up the completion of remaining affected sites while strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration in disaster management in Aceh.
