Post-Eid Return Flow: BPJPH Urges Public to Carefully Choose Halal Souvenirs
The momentum of the return flow after Eidul Fitri is often utilised by the public to bring souvenirs for family and friends. In this situation, the Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH) has reminded the importance of ensuring the halal status of purchased products.
BPJPH Head, Ahmad Haikal Hasan (Babe Haikal), emphasised that souvenirs are not just about taste and form, but must be guaranteed halal.
“Do not let the intention of sharing happiness be accompanied by uncertainty over the halal status of the product. Ensure that every souvenir we choose has a halal label,” he stated in a written statement on Thursday (26/3/2026).
He urged the public to be more careful in selecting products, especially processed foods and drinks sold at strategic locations in mudik destinations. The official halal label from BPJPH serves as an important indicator that the product has undergone examination according to standards.
In addition to checking the label on the packaging, the public can also independently verify the halal status of products through the official BPJPH website at bpjph.halal.go.id.
“Checking the authenticity of the halal label or certificate is easy. Just open the BPJPH website at bpjph.halal.go.id, then the ‘Check Halal Product’ menu appears, enter the product name or business actor, or halal certificate number, then click ‘search’. The product’s halal status will appear,” he said.
The public is also asked to pay attention to the composition of ingredients and the cleanliness of products, particularly for UMKM products that do not yet have standard packaging.
“Awareness of choosing halal products is part of a lifestyle. This is not only related to the business actors’ obligation to carry out halal product certification, but also a form of protection for us as consumers, to obtain products that are safe, healthy, and guaranteed halal,” he continued.
Furthermore, Babe Haikal assessed that buying certified halal UMKM products is equivalent to contributing to strengthening the national halal ecosystem.
“By choosing certified halal products, including UMKM products, we are helping micro, small, and medium enterprises to develop, while also strengthening the sustainability of the halal ecosystem in Indonesia. Every small step we take as consumers has a significant impact on the national halal economy,” he concluded.
