Post-Eid Holiday, Civil Servants Can Still WFA, Return to Office on This Date
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The 2026 Eid holiday has concluded, after seven consecutive days off from 18-24 March 2026, designated as national holidays in accordance with the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) from the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister for State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform on National Holidays and Collective Leave for 2026.
However, for civil servants (ASN), entry to their respective offices or workplaces is still delayed due to the implementation of flexible work arrangements anywhere, known as Work From Anywhere (WFA), as stipulated in the Circular from the Minister for State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Number 2 of 2026.
“So that government agency leaders can independently adjust the implementation of official duties for civil servant employees, considering the characteristics of official duties, criteria, and mechanisms for applying work flexibility,” said Minister Rini Widyantini in the circular, quoted on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
The WFA period applicable to ASN actually began on 16 and 17 March 2026, or two days before the national holiday and collective leave for Nyepi. Meanwhile, after the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday, the WFA period is set for 25, 26, and 27 March 2026.
WFA for ASN runs during the three-day period before the weekend falling on 28 and 29 March 2026. With that note, ASN in every central or regional government agency will mostly return on 30 March 2026.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa explained the benefits of the post-long Eid holiday WFA policy. According to him, one advantage is the potential to save up to 20% on fuel consumption.
“There’s a rough calculation. It’s not me who calculated it. They calculated [fuel savings during WFA] roughly per day, I forget. But about one-fifth, roughly 20%, that’s what I said,” he told reporters at the Directorate General of Taxation headquarters on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Another benefit is the potential to increase economic activity, particularly in the tourism sector. “So I think three days is quite substantial. Lots of activities at home and possibly tourism as well,” he said.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga also affirmed that Work From Anywhere after the long Eid holiday will be implemented for ASN and recommended to private sector workers.
“WFA after Eid will be implemented. [For] ASN or recommendations to the private sector but not for public services,” Airlangga emphasised, stressing that WFA is not an additional holiday, but rather continued work with flexible locations.
