Following Eid al-Fitr 2026, prices of various essential goods in West Java Province (Jabar) have exhibited a downward trend. This decline is attributed to stable supply, a return to normal demand, and various price control measures implemented ahead of and during Eid al-Fitr.

The Head of the Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) of West Java, Nining Yuliastiani, stated yesterday that commodities experiencing price reductions include chillies and beef. Prices of these two commodities had risen before Eid.

For instance, the price of red bird’s eye chillies as of Friday (27/3) decreased by 24.01% compared to the previous week, reaching Rp71,888 per kilogram. Curly red chillies also fell by 16.25% to Rp41,678 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the price of large red chillies is now Rp47,184 per kilogram, down 26.94%.

“Post-Eid al-Fitr, prices of various types of chillies have experienced significant declines. The normalisation of public demand has played a major role in the chilli price reduction,” she explained.

Nining noted that price drops have also occurred in beef and broiler chicken commodities. Beef prices fell by 7.07% compared to the previous week, now at Rp141,548 per kilogram, even though they had surged during Eid al-Fitr. Similarly, broiler chicken prices have declined to Rp41,908, a 5.24% drop. Prices of shallots and garlic have also decreased. Shallot prices dropped by 5.53%, and garlic by 1.25%. The current shallot price is Rp38,968 per kilogram, while garlic is Rp35,346 per kilogram.

“The decline in shallot prices is due to the return to normal demand after Eid al-Fitr, supported by sufficient supply. In fact, garlic supply is in surplus,” she elaborated.

Nining continued that other essential goods experiencing declines include rice. Medium rice prices fell by 0.13% compared to the previous week, while premium rice dropped by 0.12%. Now, medium rice is priced at Rp13,164 per kilogram and premium rice at Rp14,549 per kilogram.

“Looking ahead, the government will continue to strengthen the regional food security system, including through improved distribution connectivity, strengthened food reserves, and the development of inter-regional cooperation (KAD) to ensure sustainable price stability. With these efforts, it is hoped that public purchasing power will be maintained and regional inflation can be controlled within a safe range,” she concluded.

In addition to red chillies, other commodities have also seen price drops. Among them, broiler chicken eggs fell by Rp133 from Rp29,735 to Rp29,602 per kilogram, and bird’s eye chillies dropped by Rp2,484 from Rp43,834 to Rp41,350 per kilogram.

Moving forward, the government will continue to strive to strengthen the regional food security system, including through enhancing distribution connectivity, bolstering food reserves, and developing inter-regional cooperation (KAD) to maintain sustainable price stability. With these various efforts, it is hoped that public purchasing power will remain protected and regional inflation rates can be controlled within a safe range.
