Post-Disaster Task Force: National Roads in Sumatra Fully Recovered
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra has stated that national road and bridge infrastructure in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra has recovered 100 per cent, according to the latest data as of 5 October 2026.
“As of today, national road and bridge infrastructure has reached 100 per cent,” said Satgas PRR Spokesperson Amran during a press conference regarding the Sumatra natural disaster at the Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.
Amran, who serves as the Director of Regions, Urban Areas, and National Borders within the Directorate General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, explained that the management of regional roads and bridges is currently the primary focus. This is to ensure that community connectivity in the affected areas can return to optimal levels.
For regional roads, the recovery progress has reached 94.20 per cent in Aceh, 98.53 per cent in North Sumatra, and 83.23 per cent in West Sumatra. Meanwhile, the progress for regional bridges has reached 58.93 per cent in Aceh, 93.98 per cent in North Sumatra, and 59.50 per cent in West Sumatra.
“The progress on regional bridges is ongoing and will be pursued until completion as quickly as possible. This infrastructure development, specifically for bridges, is also supported by the Indonesian Army and the National Police, with several Bailey bridges already under construction,” he said.
In addition to road and bridge infrastructure, the recovery of residential housing is also underway. Out of a target of 57,027 permanent housing units (huntap), 2,085 units had been completed as of 5 October 2026. Meanwhile, out of a target of 20,803 temporary housing units (huntara), 20,770 units—nearly 100 per cent—have been completed.
Consequently, the process is being closely monitored to ensure gradual completion while providing certainty to the affected communities. “This achievement is being continuously improved because the community certainly needs certainty regarding their housing, and we hope this will be completed on schedule,” he added.
On the other hand, the recovery of basic services is also showing progress. Health and educational facilities are now 100 per cent functional. Out of 1,593 places of worship, 1,558 units have returned to operation. Meanwhile, the recovery of 490 religious educational institutions is ongoing through rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Other basic services, such as electricity, petrol station services, and internet access in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, have also returned to 100 per cent functionality. Additionally, the normalisation of rivers and estuaries continues to be carried out to mitigate the risk of further disasters.
The Satgas PRR continues to oversee the completion of regional infrastructure, housing construction, and the normalisation of rivers and estuaries. This acceleration is being implemented to ensure that post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction are completed according to target, while ensuring that affected communities regain optimal connectivity, housing, and basic services.
