The Post-Disaster Sumatra Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force has noted that economic activities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra are steadily recovering and showing progress. This is evident from the return to functionality of traditional markets, increased access to business financing, and the continued operation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the affected regions.

“As of today, the activation of traditional markets in Aceh has reached 90 percent, while in North Sumatra and West Sumatra, it has reached 100 percent,” said PRR Task Force Spokesperson Amran during a press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.

Amran, who serves as the Director of Regions, Urban Areas, and National Borders within the Directorate General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated that the return of traditional markets is a key indicator that trade and community economic activities are beginning to recover. This movement is also reflected in business financing activities through the People’s Business Credit (KUR) programme.

As of 5 October 2026, Amran noted that there were 121,984 KUR debtors in Aceh, 44,049 in North Sumatra, and 27,670 in West Sumatra. This data demonstrates that the community is once again accessing financing to run and expand their business activities.

“This signifies that the programmes are in motion and the community is beginning to rise again economically,” he said.

In addition to trade and financing, MSME activities continue to progress. As of 26 August 2026, a total of 40,634,395 MSME transactions were recorded through electronic commerce.

The economic recovery of the community is also supported by the distribution of aid. This distribution is being closely monitored to support community needs throughout the post-disaster recovery process.

In the agricultural sector, the restoration of paddy fields is also ongoing. In Aceh, reconstruction efforts have reached 56.71 percent, covering 17,844 hectares. In North Sumatra, recovery has reached 96.57 percent, covering 7,085 hectares, while in West Sumatra, it has reached 100 percent, covering 3,902 hectares of affected land.

Recovery also encompasses the marine and fisheries sectors, including the restoration of fish farming, assistance for capture fisheries, the rehabilitation of 10.88 hectares of fish ponds, and the strengthening of fish processing and marketing through the provision of supporting facilities.

These various achievements indicate that the economic recovery of communities in the affected areas is progressing gradually. The PRR Task Force will continue to oversee the recovery of various sectors—ranging from trade, business financing, and MSMEs to agriculture, marine, and fisheries—to ensure that community economic activities can return to a sustainable level.
