Post-Disaster Recovery: South Nias Additional TKD Utilisation Reaches 23%
The Government of South Nias Regency, North Sumatra, is continuing to accelerate post-disaster recovery through the optimisation of additional Transfer to Daerah (TKD) funds. Based on data from the Directorate General of Regional Financial Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, South Nias Regency has received a TKD allocation adjustment for 2026 amounting to Rp72.32 billion. Utilisation of the funds from the budget adjustment has reached 23 per cent and is being pushed to address the urgent needs of the community.
South Nias Regent Sokhiatulo Laia said the regency government is continuing to align damage data, field needs, and handling plans so that recovery can be carried out in a targeted manner. The regional government has also distributed stimulus funds to beneficiaries with lightly and moderately damaged houses.
“We realise that handling natural disasters in South Nias Regency cannot be done by the regency government alone. Therefore, we very much hope for the support, direction, and synergy of the central government, the province, and all stakeholders,” said Sokhiatulo in a written statement on Saturday (22/8/2026).
In July 2026, disasters in Mazo and Boronadu sub-districts caused nine houses to be submerged and damaged, and affected one school unit. Landslides also cut off regency roads in Taluzusua Village, Siduaori Sub-district, as well as Sifaoroasi Village and Hilianaa Village in Gomo Sub-district, temporarily isolating six sub-districts.
In the housing sector, data collection by the North Sumatra Monitoring and Evaluation Team of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force recorded 82 lightly damaged houses, nine moderately damaged houses, and 16 heavily damaged houses requiring handling according to their level of damage.
The South Nias Regency Government is also finalising steps to relocate educational facilities located in landslide-prone areas, as well as handling permanent housing in Fanayama Sub-district. Completion of land legality for communal permanent housing and the provision of water and electricity are important parts of enabling the community to be relocated to safe and proper places.
In Aramo Sub-district, the regional government is preparing handling by considering the challenges of material distribution and the geological conditions of the area.
Coordinator of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for North Sumatra, Brigadier General TNI Fadjar Tjahjono, asked the regional government to complete infrastructure relocation proposals with a clear basis of need so that follow-up funding and work can be prepared immediately.
“It is recommended that infrastructure relocation be submitted along with its reasons to the PRR team. For the handling of the latest natural disasters as reported by the South Nias Regent, funding will be sought by the team,” said Fadjar.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Team, together with South Nias Deputy Regent Yusuf Nache, also inspected a number of affected locations in Fanayama and Aramo sub-districts. The field inspection was carried out to ensure that recovery priorities are prepared based on the actual conditions of the community, logistics access, and the level of regional vulnerability.
