The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra continues to oversee the recovery of infrastructure in areas affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Several projects involving the management of roads, bridges, embankments, and river control are confirmed to be proceeding according to target.

Monitoring is being conducted alongside the Ministry of Public Works’ regional offices, local governments, and project contractors. The Task Force has visited several priority sites to assess progress and identify field obstacles, ranging from material requirements and land acquisition to fuel supplies for heavy machinery.

In several locations in Central Aceh, work on landslide mitigation, slope reinforcement, road repairs, and the construction of retaining walls is showing continuous progress. The Task Force has requested that work at critical points be completed more quickly to ensure that primary public access is not disrupted again when rainfall increases towards the end of the year.

Acceleration is also being implemented for road and bridge projects connecting the Central Aceh and Gayo Lues regions. Sections that previously suffered heavy damage due to landslides are currently undergoing repairs. River normalisation and bank reinforcement are being carried out in an integrated manner to reduce the risk of recurring damage.

“The Task Force emphasises the importance of synergy between road infrastructure development and river flow control so that the results of the recovery can endure in the long term,” stated an official release from the PRR Task Force on Sunday (7/6/2026).

In the Gayo Lues region, attention is also being directed towards the construction of river protection embankments to safeguard residential areas and productive farmland. Given the high intensity of rainfall in the area, the Task Force has requested that works originally targeted for completion in August be accelerated to ensure protection for residents before the peak of the rainy season.

Meanwhile, in the Ketambe area, Southeast Aceh Regency, the Task Force directly inspected the construction of flood control embankments, roads, and bridges that serve as primary access for the community. Workers are even performing accelerated shifts into the night to maintain completion targets.

During a meeting with the Southeast Aceh Regency Government and regional leadership coordination bodies (Forkopimda), the Task Force received various inputs regarding the need for the recovery of public services, including proposals for the repair of health facilities in affected areas. All feedback will be followed up through coordination with relevant ministries and agencies.

In Kutagaluh Village, Lawe Bulan District, the reinforcement of river walls is beginning to provide a sense of security for residents. The village government expressed appreciation for the embankment construction, which helps alleviate community concerns regarding the threat of subsequent flooding.

The Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that the recovery of basic infrastructure is the top priority in the three affected provinces.

“The priorities are infrastructure, rivers, roads, bridges, trade, and agriculture; permanent housing is also important so that the community does not have to stay in temporary shelters for too long,” said Tito following a meeting with the PRR Task Force Steering Committee Chair, Pratikno, in Jakarta recently.
