JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works targets the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Kutablang sub-district, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, to be gradually operational again by the end of July 2026 following damage from a disaster.

The bridge was previously damaged on 26 November 2025 due to a hydrometeorological disaster that disrupted its structure and traffic flow on the national route across eastern Sumatra.

This infrastructure serves as a strategic access point connecting Aceh with North Sumatra and supporting community mobility and logistics distribution.

As an emergency response measure, the Ministry of Public Works constructed a temporary Bailey bridge, which began operations on 27 December 2025 to maintain connectivity in the area.

Currently, the construction of the permanent bridge is underway through the Permanent Handling Package for the Duplication of the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge by the Aceh National Road Implementation Centre (BPJN).

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo assured that the handling of the bridge is a government priority in maintaining smooth transportation.

“This bridge plays an important role in supporting national connectivity, particularly along eastern Sumatra. Therefore, acceleration of permanent handling continues to be carried out so that it can soon be optimally operational,” said Dody on Monday (27/4/2026).

The new bridge is 149.7 metres long and constructed using a steel girder structure with an incremental launching construction method to improve capacity and resilience against disaster risks.

During the construction process, monitoring and maintenance of the temporary bridge continue, including daily checks, periodic repairs, and traffic management coordinated with the police and related agencies.

Additionally, mitigation measures such as watering the road surface are implemented to reduce dust during the construction period.

In the near future, the project will enter the girder erection stage on the first span as part of the acceleration of completion.

The Ministry of Public Works targets the permanent bridge to be gradually operational by the end of July 2026 to increase traffic capacity, reduce vehicle congestion, and smooth the flow of goods and people in the Aceh region.
