Post burns down, GRIB Jaya says due to phone charger short circuit
The Central Executive Board (DPP) of GRIB Jaya has stated that the fire which struck one of the organisation’s posts on Jalan Manunggal V, South Kedoya, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Monday, was triggered by a short circuit from a mobile phone charger.
“Based on checks and identification at the scene, the source of the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit originating from a mobile phone charger device that was placed on top of a refrigerator,” said GRIB Jaya legal counsel Wilson Colling in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday.
Wilson explained that sparks from the charger device caught the curtains and wall wallpaper.
“It then spread to the sofa area and extended to the ceiling of the room,” he said.
Information about the fire was quickly relayed to the fire department, which immediately moved to the location to tackle the flames.
“The fire did not spread to other rooms or surrounding buildings,” said Wilson.
He also stated that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the incident.
His party expressed appreciation to the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department team, security forces and all ranks who handled the fire.
“DPP GRIB Jaya also urges all members to continuously increase vigilance regarding the safety of electrical installations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Head of Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department, Syaiful Kahfi, when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday, said his party received information about the fire on Monday at 02.49 Western Indonesia Time.
“The object that burned was the Grib mass organisation post,” said Syaiful.
Upon receiving the information, his party deployed seven fire engines with a strength of 35 personnel.
“Initial deployment, seven fleet units with 35 personnel,” said Syaiful.
As the extinguishing process progressed, one fleet unit with five personnel returned to speed up the handling of the fire.
After half an hour of battling the flames, the fire was successfully extinguished at 03.28 Western Indonesia Time.
“The extinguishing was declared complete,” said Syaiful.
