Post-Bekasi Timur Train Accident, Danantara Boss Promises Comprehensive Safety System Evaluation
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - CEO of the Nusantara Future Energy Investment Management Agency (Danantara) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani has assured that the government will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the railway safety system following the train accident in East Bekasi that occurred on Monday night.
Rosan stated that safety is the government’s top priority, even above aspects of public transportation service comfort.
The evaluation, he said, will cover the entire system related to operational security.
According to Rosan, the evaluation of the safety system is actually conducted continuously, but this incident serves as a momentum to strengthen risk mitigation measures more comprehensively.
“Indeed, we always evaluate comprehensively, like that. Because safety is indeed the most important thing in our efforts, besides improving comfort, but safety is number one,” he said.
In line with Rosan, the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Management Agency Dony Oskaria will prioritise safety aspects, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives that all crossings must be repaired and equipped with safety gates.
He stated that the improvement of crossings was actually already an agenda prepared by the government before the incident occurred.
According to Dony, the focus on strengthening safety has indeed been a government priority this year, but the latest incident will expand the evaluation.
According to him, President Prabowo Subianto has also given signals that there will be additional support to strengthen the overall transportation security process.
From the operator management side, Dony said that an evaluation will also be conducted, but the cause of the incident is still awaiting the results of the investigation by the authorities.
“This is actually already included in our work programme this year as directed by the President to approximately 1,800 train crossings, which must be repaired and have gates,” he said.
