Poso plotters' appeal rejected

PALU, Central Sulawesi: South Sulawesi Provincial Court rejected on Saturday appeals for lighter sentences for Fabianus Tibo, Marianus Riwu and Dominggus da Silva who have all been sentenced to death by a lower court for their involvement in the Poso riot.

The head of the court, Judge Munziri Syarkawi, said a panel of judges supported the sentence handed to the three people.

The three accused were sentenced to death on April 8 after having been found guilty of plotting the riots that erupted from May 23 to late June last year.

The clashes claimed the lives of up to 200 people and left hundreds of other people homeless. (24)
