Jakarta, 10 March 2026 – The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has arrested a Portuguese national with the initials MG (30), who was a fugitive in a premeditated murder case in his home country.

The arrest was carried out by a joint team from the Directorate General of Immigration, the South Jakarta Immigration Office, and the International Enforcement Section (SES) from Interpol Indonesia on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, stated that the arrest was conducted after officers received intelligence information that MG would come to the South Jakarta Immigration Office to handle his immigration documents.

“The joint team then conducted close surveillance at the location from the early morning,” said Yuldi in an official statement on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

“MG arrived at the location and was immediately secured by officers after administrative processing was completed and he was about to proceed to his vehicle,” he said.

The arrest was a follow-up to a request for apprehension and detention of an Interpol Red Notice subject issued by the International Relations Division (Divhubinter) of the Indonesian National Police on 24 February 2026.

He and an accomplice are alleged to have murdered a man with the initials DG with the aim of acquiring compensation money belonging to the victim amounting to 70,000 euros.

According to Yuldi, the modus operandi used in the case was considered particularly brutal.

“The modus operandi involved sedation, strangulation, and attempts to mutilate the victim’s body parts to access banking data on the victim’s mobile phone before disposing of the corpse into the sea,” he said.

Initially, MG had used a two-month visit stay permit. After that, he obtained a limited stay permit as a remote worker valid until 8 July 2026.

Currently, MG has been brought to the Directorate General of Immigration for further examination and placed in a detention room.

“The security process proceeded smoothly and orderly,” said Yuldi.

He added that the immigration authority had processed the deportation of MG.

“The deportation of MG was carried out on Monday, 9 March 2026,” he said.
