Portuguese cartography expo

JAKARTA (JP): The Embassy of Portugal, in cooperation with the Jakarta Historical Museum, will hold an exhibition of ancient Portuguese nautical cartography next Thursday, the embassy announced on Saturday.

The six-week exhibition, titled Cartography of the West-East Encounter, will feature over 150 facsimile images of nautical charts and figures related to Portuguese voyages in the Asia- Pacific region during the 16th and 17th centuries.

The exhibition, which will be open to the public at the Jakarta Historical Museum on Jl. Taman Fatahillah No. 1 in West Jakarta, is cosponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal and the Fundaca Oriente, a Lisbon-based Portuguese cultural and welfare foundation. (imn)
