Portrait of the Middle East: Examining the devastated streets of Tehran
Tehran (ANTARA) – Regional tensions remain elevated following combined United States-Israeli attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities that began on 28 February, which were subsequently answered with attacks by Iran and allied groups against US and Israeli assets throughout the Middle East.
By mid-March, various reports indicated that more than 1,300 civilians had been killed in Iran as a result of attacks by the US and Israel, with data from the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency showing between 1,168 and more than 1,200 deaths during the early weeks of the conflict.
More than 10,000 civilians have been injured, and approximately 3.2 million people have been forced to flee, according to Iranian health officials and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
