Porto Sandal Factory in Karanganyar Engulfed in Flames, Thick Black Smoke Billows
A sandal factory in Kebakkramat District, Karanganyar, Central Java, has been severely damaged by fire. Five fire engines and personnel from the Karanganyar Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) were deployed to extinguish the flames.
The fire was seen consuming the western side of the factory, with thick black smoke billowing high into the sky. Fire engines from several surrounding regencies were also mobilised to assist in firefighting efforts.
Kebakkramat Police Chief, Iptu Marindra Prasya, stated that the fire was reported by the factory’s security team at around 08:45 WIB. "We received a report from security at PT Porto, the sandal factory in Kebakkramat. There were sparks on the western side of the building where sandals are manufactured," Marindra said.
He indicated that the fire is suspected to have originated in the production and raw material storage warehouse. He suspects sparks ignited in the area where plastic pellets are stored. "There were sparks above the building used for manufacturing and storing plastic pellets. The part that caught fire was the warehouse, specifically the sandal production area and the storage for plastic pellet raw materials," he explained.
