Jakarta (ANTARA) - Porters and traders operating in the vicinity of Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, have expressed their enjoyment of the economic impact from the implementation of the 2026 Eid transportation period, which is taking place from 11 March to 1 April 2026. “For this year (2026), it’s quite good, because there are plenty of trains, you know,” said Ahmad, a porter met at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, on Friday. Ahmad stated that he is earning up to hundreds of thousands of rupiah per day during the 2026 Eid transportation period, though he did not detail the difference in his income compared to regular days. The porter, dressed in blue, explained that services ordered through apps are priced at Rp38,000 for one suitcase and one carry-on bag or additional luggage. Nevertheless, he does not mind carrying more than one suitcase or bag, as long as it is feasible for him to do so. “But there are also manual ones (not through apps). The manual ones are paid at the passenger’s discretion,” said Ahmad. Separately, Kurnia, a nasi trader in the Gambir Station area, Central Jakarta, conveyed something similar. During the return flow period, Kurnia, who usually sells from 08:00 WIB until around 20:00 WIB, often runs out of stock by around 18:00 WIB, or even 16:00 WIB at the peak of the return flow. To maximise profits, Kurnia even decided to postpone his homecoming, so he could sell during the Eid period. “It’s really crowded. Oh, I didn’t count (the portions sold), but it’s really crowded. I almost fainted,” said Kurnia, after revealing that he often feels exhausted from selling alone. The increase in economic activity in the Gambir Station area, Central Jakarta, was also conveyed by the Head of Gambir Station, Ganjar Mairizal. He said that during the Eid transportation period, trading activities at Gambir Station have also experienced an increase. “This is in line with the increase in the number of train passengers coming to Gambir Station to go home for Eid and return from Eid,” said Ganjar.
