Port open on holiday

JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Transportation Haryanto Dhanutirto announced here yesterday that the Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta will keep on operating during the Idul Fitri holiday which falls on Feb. 21 and 22.

"The Tanjung Priok port will remain open for 24 hours and activities will stop just for two hours for the Idul Fitri prayer on Feb. 21, so both exporters and importers will be able to conduct their business as usual," Haryanto said after opening a three-day workshop of PT Pelni, a state-owned shipping company.

He stressed that activities at the port will continue in spite of public holidays.

The Tanjung Priok port used to close for several days during Idul Fitri celebration.

The secretary-general of the Indonesian Shipowners Association, Barens Saragih, hailed the policy, hoping that other related services in the port, such as banks and immigration, as well as customs and excises offices, would also remain open during the holidays. (icn)
