Porn VCDs, liquor destroyed in Bandung

BANDUNG: Police in the West Java capital of Bandung destroyed
16,000 bottles of liquor and more than 2.2 million pirated and
pornographic VCDs seized from street vendors during raids carried
out over the last month.

Bandung Police chief Sr. Comr. Hendra Sukmana, who witnessed
the destruction seized goods on Friday, said his personnel had
also arrested at least 194 people suspected of circulating
pirated and pornographic VCDs, alcoholic drinks and gambling
cards. Many of the suspects also were charge with sex-related
crimes.

The operation was launched by police on Feb. 17 and will
continue for 60 days.

Also on Friday, the police fined 96 prostitutes, 17
transvestites and eight pimps between Rp 30,000 and Rp 75,000
each. However, 46 of them could not pay the fine and will spend
at least one week in detention. --JP
