Popeyes to open RI stores

ATLANTA (AP): Popeyes Chicken and Biscuit plans take its Cajun
flavor to Indonesia.

The restaurant, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based AFC Enterprises,
has signed a deal to open 56 restaurants with an Indonesian
company within five years. The agreement is with Pop Indo, which
operates other restaurants and manufactures restaurant equipment.

Under the deal, as many as three Popeyes will open by the end
of the year in Jakarta and Bandung.

Popeyes, which specializes in Cajun food, had 1999 systemwide
sales of US$ 1 billion, has more than 1,425 restaurants in the
United States and 21 countries.
