Pope Leo: I Am Not Afraid of Trump
Pope Leo stated that he is not afraid of the Trump administration and will continue to speak out against war. This affirmation was made after Donald Trump launched an extraordinary attack on the Catholic leader. Trump considered the Pope, born in Chicago, not to be doing a very good job. Trump also suggested that the Pope stop following radical leftists. “I continue to speak firmly against war, seeking to promote peace, dialogue, and multilateralism between countries to find solutions to problems,” said the Pope, as quoted from the Guardian website. “I am not afraid of the Trump administration or speaking loudly about the Gospel message, which I believe is my duty here, the duty of the church here.” In a statement that has been widely criticised, the US president used a social media post to sharply criticise Leo as he flew from Florida to Washington on Sunday evening. He then continued his comments on the tarmac to reporters. “I am not a fan of Pope Leo,” he said. “Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and bad for Foreign Policy,” the president wrote in his post, adding. “I do not want a Pope who thinks it is okay for Iran to have Nuclear Weapons.” He repeated that sentiment in his comments to reporters, saying, “We do not like a Pope who says it is okay to have nuclear weapons.”
