Poor urban communities to convene

JAKARTA: Representatives of Asian poor urban communities will
organize a meeting here to seek solutions to problems
marginalized people are facing.

Coordinator of the Urban Poor Consortium Wardah Hafidz said on
Thursday the gathering would take place in Cibubur flower park
from Saturday through Thursday next week.

She said a series of workshops would be held in kampongs
across the capital during the international event, which will
feature non-governmental organization' activists for the poor
from Thailand, Japan, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia,
the Philippines, Nepal and African counterparts from South Africa
and Kenya.

The participants are expected to issue a Declaration of Asian
Poor People that will confirm their joint struggle and set up an
international network between them. -- Antara
