Poor security at ITC Roxy Mas
Poor security at ITC Roxy Mas
From Kompas
On Feb. 23 I took my three children to ITC Roxy Mas, Central Jakarta. We wanted to have our cellular phone repaired. As it was difficult to find a parking space, my third child and I got out of the car, while my two other children, who are of driving age, tried to find a parking space.
Unfortunately, while they were looking for a parking space, about seven adults forced them to get out of the car, saying that one of them resembled their friend who had been stabbed earlier that morning.
They forced my children to go with them to see the victim. Before that, they also asked my two children to give them their cellular telephones, cash and ATM cards. These seven adults also asked my children to write down the PIN numbers for their ATM accounts -- to supposedly prove that the accounts really belonged to them. They said the victim's ATM card had been stolen. They also threatened to beat my two children black and blue if the PIN numbers were wrong.
Finally, they said that they would leave my children's belongings at a nearby food stall before they proceeded to take them to see the victim. However, on the way, one of them asked my children to return to the food stall, saying that he was afraid of a potential misunderstanding between my children and the victim, which could also cause my children to be beaten up.
However, when my children returned to the food stall, the owner told them that nothing had been left there. My children lost their cell phones and cash, while their savings were also withdrawn from the ATM.
The management of ITC Roxy Mas must tighten their security to ensure that a crime like this will not recur.
