Poor bank service draws complaints
TANGERANG (JP): Several customers of Lumbung Mekar Sentosa secondary bank on Jl. Daan Mogot in Batuceper district complained yesterday of difficulties in withdrawing their savings.
One of the customers, who asked for anonymity, said he could not withdraw Rp 25 million owned by 500 elementary school students from his account.
He said the money was badly needed to pay for examination fees this month and that bank employees had told him several times to come back the next day.
Several other customers, mostly elementary school teachers, also faced the same experience.
Many of the customers thought the bank was on the brink of bankruptcy due to the monetary crisis.
Wilson Pangaribuan, a director of the bank, denied such allegations, saying his bank was financially sound and that customers could withdraw their money whenever they wanted.
"We never postpone any withdrawal requests. We will serve customers as quickly as possible, anytime they want," he said.
Wilson believed that the allegations were being made by people wishing to hurt the bank. (41)
